Students used Venn Diagram to compare and contrast the features of two genres of literature. 

ALMOST ANYTHING GOES!!

Creating own stories was never so much exciting!

Students were told few traditional tales and on the same lines they had to create their own It was fun!

It promoted cooperation and team work.

Once they had some experience with the old tales, then they began adapting their own from existing stories. And they did not have to write alone—it was with their partner.  They were so familiar with concepts such as setting, plot, character, and dialogue. What lovely stories they came up with…….Awesome Imagination!!

IMAGINATION

Creative activities engage a child's imagination and inspire his thoughts and perceptions. Creative activities present opportunities to problem-solve, challenging a child's thinking and expanding his perspective. Students in groups read a book of a particular genre and did various activities related to it. They made mystery cube, comic strip, fantasy chart, story map, story sundae and movie poster and shared it with the class. Pursuing creative activities with children is a healthy way to help them grow and learn.

GENRE RESEARCH

Children were introduced to a variety of genres to help develop their own interest in reading and writing. If children are exposed to various genres they will gain “a much greater general awareness of these genres, their shapes, their meaning potentials, and their functions than children who do not”. Through this approach, we as an educator stimulated the student to learn new skills. Out of the HUGE genre list created by children, they shortlisted 6 of them and did an extensive research.

MAKING BOOKMARKS

As a learning engagement students made genre bookmarks to keep pages from wiggling away. They used a selection of slogans, illustrations based on a specific genre for bookmarks:

• Time for reading
• Switch on to reading
• I'm a bookworm 

LET JOY AND PEACE PREVAIL

The annual national Joy of Giving Week, celebrated from October 2 to 8, is here and people across the country are on to new ways of reaching out to society and practicing goodwill. Scores of Indians have given to their communities, in big ways and small. This year we are very proudly connecting to this national campaign by the Times of India. The campaign launched in 2009, has gained steam over the years and covered wide ground, in the number of people it has benefited through collective fund-raising and varied acts of charity.

The students of Primary school are very proud to be a part of this nationwide campaign. The spirit of giving is to be inculcated by each one of us. When that happens, each day will be a Giving Day and each one of us will experience the happiness that comes from sharing. Each student of the Primary School has contributed a gift to be shared with friends in the NGO Navjyoti at Bhondsi and other schools in the neighbourhood. It is heartening and humbling when children set out to do their bit and contribute in novel ways, in the process enriching all our lives and making it more meaningful. Let us all embark on this journey together and experience joy, the Joy of Giving.

PEACE IS THE ONLY SOLUTION

Be the change you wish to see in the world.This isn't just a commonly referred to saying of Gandhiji – it's a call for Action. And there are a number of proactive ways that one can initiate and become the peaceful change one would like to see in the world. Today the Primary School had a group of International UN peacekeepers from the Indian army, ready to set sail for a Peace Mission to the Republic of Sudan. The team that visited the school was from the Blue Beret Commandos that have an impeccable record in spreading peace by way of strategic deployment amongst warring neighbors, cultural exchange in ethnic violent states, ensuring territorial integrity in regional disputes and humanitarian aid in internally unstable states. The message and objective of the whole session was to encourage and motivate students to ‘Be part of the solution’. Students got the opportunity to interact and ask questions to the team of visitors. The session culminated with the handing over the PEACE scroll made by the primary school students, to spread the message of peace beyond the boundaries of the school, to the wider community and the world. The PEACE scroll contained peace messages from every single student of the Primary School, from Pre Nursery to Grade 5, joined together to make a scroll ….m long!!
