PREDICT AND GUESS

Students using the MEANS WHEEL made predictions and guesses on how their parents and grandparents must have lived in their childhood.

Then they had to interview their parents and grandparents to validate the previous day’s activity. Children found out from their parents and grandparents about life in their times and how has it changed from then till now.

IMAGINATION IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN KNOWLEDGE- ALBERT EINSTEIN

Students were read to an awesome biography that explains the childhood and life of Albert Einstein in a humorous and understandable way for young children. This book shows how Albert was very different from other children his own age growing up, and that despite his oftentimes "odd" qualities, he turned into one of the most important scientific figures off all time! This book is a great way to show students how being unique and different is okay, and also would serve as the perfect introduction to studying INVENTIONS. It was followed by Reflection.

INVENTION vs DISCOVERY

As children studying the basic of science, math, and history, we often came across the words Invention and Discovery, two terms which in our young minds we thought were one and the same. However, we had a detailed discussion in class and discovered that the two terms are actually different from each other. When you invent something, you create an object that does not previously exist, to discover something means to find something that already exist.
 SO SIMPLE!!
Students also came up with their list of inventions and discoveries and shared it in class.

HOW MUCH YOU KNOW???

Prior Knowledge assessment of students was done using the ALPHABET KEY. In groups students had to write any invention they knew of starting from the letters of the alphabet.

Some inventions came as a surprise to me as well. their thinking knows no bounds!!

DISSECTING THE CENTRAL IDEA-HOW THE WORLD WORKS

Students were given the jumbled words of the Central idea in groups and had to arrive at a statement. Within no time all the groups came up with a unanimous statement ‘Inventions impact the way we live’. Students also wrote their understanding of the Central Idea, discussed the Key Concepts and the Lines of Inquiry and wrote burning questions that came to their minds.

For the next unit we really need to think for some other engagement to keep them involved J this one was a child’s play for all of them.

STRANDS OF THE TRANSDISCIPLINARY THEME

In groups, students worked with different strand of the Transdisciplinary Theme and shared their understanding of it with the class. Great ideas they had to share. And very easily they could also find the strands that was relating to their unit on Inventions.

QUACK, QUACK........ LOOK WHO'S BACK

January is "RE" month, a month of re-viewing and re-modeling, re-investing and starting again.
After a long and restful time away, students seemed both eager and hesitant about returning to school. They were excited to reconnect with their buddies, share their vacation adventures, get back into a project they love, learn new activities, and play some old favorites. They were so excited to hearing about what their friends did while they were away and sharing the many stories they had. At the same time they had questions circling in their heads..??????
GREAT TO RE-CONNECT J
