The Learner Profile
is not another ‘thing’ to cover in class.
It’s embedded in all our teaching and learning. We need to
develop a culture, where the attributes of the learner profile are noticed,
nurtured, modeled and expected. Today
students described the main character of the stories read to them throughout
last week using the following traits: Physical (What does he/she look like?
What role does that play in the story?), Intellectual (How intelligent is
he/she? How does that compare to the other characters in the story?), Social
(How does he/she get along with others?), Emotional (How does he/she feel most
of the time? What emotions does he/she show when faced with a challenge?),
and/or Philosophical (What does he/she believe about life? What are those
beliefs based on?). Then they used these traits to determine which attributes
of learner profile the character exhibits most strongly, and justified their response.
Students also did it for the character of Irene from the story 'Brave Irene' that was read out to them in conjunction to the current unit of inquiry.
Must admit,that it came out
really well. I am proud of my students.
