MAGIC OF ROLE PLAY

Participation in role-play allows students to make decisions, and through the feedback he or she receives, they sees the results of their actions, and can therefore learn how to adjust the words and actions to produce more likeable results. My 3rd Graders worked in groups and showcased their understanding of the First line of Inquiry in the form of role play. They were very well able to show how demand and supply affect every individual in a society. Role-playing actually teaches many lessons that are needed in society i.e. competition, cooperation and empathy.

CASE STUDY

In pairs students were given some case studies. They tried to get a deep understanding between demand and supply. They picked up a chit and worked on it accordingly. Using the PROVING GEAR they studied the case critically and came up with great solutions to the problems that were there.

NEEDS AND WANTS

Students were given pictures of common items (i.e., food, cleaning products, clothes, candy, make up etc. they worked in groups and classified the things as needs and wants. They stuck the pictures on a sheet and explained why they have classified an object either as need or want.

Discussions led to an understanding that Needs are as goods or services that are required. This would include the needs for food, clothing, shelter, health care. These are things you must have to live. Wants are goods or services that are not necessary but that we desire or wish for.
Thus they came up with a class definition for Needs and wants.

HOW WE ORGANIZE OURSELVES

The class was unorganised when they came back from specialist class. They understood that organising oneself is not one person’s job and get things work smoothly we need systems.

BOOK LAUNCH

‘Imagination is more important than knowledge’- Albert Einstein

The importance of artistic and creative development is something that can be encouraged at a young age. 3rd Graders had a grand BOOK LAUNCH on Friday, 2nd November. These books were written by the students themselves as a summative ending to their unit of inquiry under the Transdisciplinary Theme ‘How we express ourselves’. The day started with a session by a renowned children’s author, Ms Sonali Pota wherein she interacted with them and narrated a story written by her under the genre of mythology. Students were bubbling with energy and their enthusiasm knew no bounds. The official Book Release was done by the School director, Dr Naidu. Students loved to talk about books! What a lovely way to support and encourage kids' love for reading by giving them an opportunity to connect, on a personal level, with the books they wrote and then share their ideas, thoughts, and opinions with family members, friends, and teachers.
What confidence they exhibited during the whole process. Opportunity was given to them where the children’s creative juices were allowed to run wild and unhindered, which helped them develop and strengthen their written and verbal skills.
We have many budding writers and poets in the making!! We should nurture and foster creativity in children as creative writing and being imaginative as it plays an important role in one’s ability to communicate.

TRICK-O-TREAT

With the temperatures cooling down and the days getting dry, there is no doubt that Halloween is right around the corner. Students were very excited to dress up in their Halloween costumes and had a parade in the Amphitheatre.  With everything from little brothers who are more monstrous than normal, to vampires with dental issues, to witches with a talent for baking, there was something to appeal to every little ghost or goblin.
